Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre is the first offshore specific simulation centre in Australia and the largest integrated centre of its kind in the world. Featuring the latest in simulator technology and embracing contemporary teaching methods, we will aim to be the leader in training and skills development of offshore personnel and crews.

Being accredited with The Nautical Institute, we strive for quality training outcomes. Our focus is squarely on providing learner-focused, offshore specific and industry recognised training.

Having been there, we understand the challenges and demands of work in the offshore oil and gas sector. We will use this wealth of experience to spread this knowledge, to enable our customers to become safer and more efficient in this demanding and rewarding profession.

Meet The Team


Andy Rogers - Senior Instructor

Andy has been at sea for over twenty years, spending the last twelve of that in the offshore industry. Having worked on supply vessels, anchor handlers, saturation dive vessels, well intervention and drilling rigs as a DPO and Snr DPO, during that time. His DP experience has been gained from Class 1 supply vessels through to the most complex Class 3, 6thGeneration semi subs.

Andy brings a wealth of operator knowledge and operational experience to the Simulator. He is fully aware of the demands placed on the modern DPO today and extremely keen to share his knowledge and experience of the offshore industry, and help to further develop standards, through training in this world class facility.


Rebecca Cairns - Training & Administration Executive

Rebecca joined the team at FSOSC in 2016. Since then she has grown from Administration Officer to Training and Administration Executive. With a background in business development, education & customer relations, she is committed to providing a world class training experience in a relaxed, comfortable environment where all participants are valued for their knowledge and experience.


Edward Chia - Technical Officer

Ed has been with FSOSC since it first opened in 2011. With a background in IT and computer systems he maintains and ensures the smooth running of all training simulators, ensuring high standards met. A valuable part of the team, Ed is an integral part of maintaining our commitment to top quality training in a world class environment.



Thomas Cambridge - Crane Instructor

Tom’s specialities are Cranes, Rigging and Working at Height Training and assessing. With over 30 years operational experience covering various industries including Maritime operations, Oil & Gas, Offshore production and drilling platforms, FPSO’s research Vessels, pipe layers ,Semi subs, and LNG plants.

His experience and expertise enables him to provide additional services including, but not limited to an Accredited Worksafe Trainer and Assessor, HSE Safety Management consultant, Crane and Rigging SME inclusive of rigging design, procurement, logistics, auditing, crane coordination, load calculation, supervision of heavy lifts, lift plans/studies, inspection/tagging. Committed to safety and quality training Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Centre.


Mark Gooderham – TECDIS & TRANSAS ECDIS Instructor

Mark has been involved in the maritime industry since the late seventies and in maritime education and training for the last 14 years as lecturer, curriculum leader, curriculum manager and simulator manager. He believes that the use of simulators is a great way to facilitate the training and development of seafarers. Mark is committed to ensuring that all customers receive quality, industry specific training and development in an environment that will achieve the best possible outcome.

Offshore Simulator Centre (OSC) develops the technology, and software used in the simulators in Centre. Using their position in the Maritime Cluster in Aalesund, Norway, OSC brings the world’s most advanced simulators for anchor handling and platform supply operations.

Aalesund Unversity College is a partner in OSC and works closely with them to deliver world-class anchor handling and platform supply training in Norway. We are fortunate enough to have access to these offshore crew training concepts to offer them in Australia.

The Nautical Institute

The Nautical Institute (The NI) is a Non-Government Organisation representing seafarers’ and professional mariners’ views at the IMO. The NI is the accrediting body for our Dynamic Positioning facilities for The NI’s DPO Training Scheme.

IMSF2International Marine Simulator Forum

The IMSF is an organization for professionals involved in the advancement of maritime education, training and research through the use of simulation. The IMSF was established in 1978 and now consists of nearly 100 members from countries in all continents. FSOSC is a Member of IMSF.




Veripos aims to be the market leader in precise navigation and positioning solutions, through the innovative application of technology, continuous product development and operational excellence. We are very pleased to have Veripos GNSS training equipment available for course participants in the centre.

Kongsberg Maritime delivers products and systems for dynamic positioning, navigation and automation to merchant vessels and offshore installations. They also supply products and systems for seabed surveying, surveillance, training simulators, and for fishing vessels and fisheries research. FSOSC have an agreement with Kongsberg Maritime for delivery of Kongsberg Maintenance Training at our simulation centre.
